MY APPROACH

HELPING YOU UNCOVER

Your inner hero

I am so blessed to be a part of a young person’s transformation from pain and uncertainty as they discover a renewed sense of wholeness and well-being. To be trusted as a guide on this healing journey, to lead hurting youth to compassionate self-awareness, to watch the process as they uncover their inner hero – this is my greatest honour as a mental health therapist. Respecting this process is central to my approach and to everything that I do.

My Approach

Trust is the foundation of any relationship. To lay the foundation of this trust, I listen to and validate experiences rather than advise and manage. From there, I  support and guide my clients to build that trusted relationship with themselves. As their confidence and self-awareness grow, I celebrate and encourage them to develop and refine their inner resources of courage, resilience and strength that will serve them long into their future.

My Passion

In my work, I’m drawn to young people who are struggling the most to be okay and especially to those who want a change. It’s gratifying to witness the inner courage that emerges as they work to overcome situations that make them feel unable to move forward. I’m honoured to be trusted with their stories and guide them as they discover new ways to cope, overcome, gain confidence and feel empowered to change their lives.

My Canine Assistants

I have two four-legged assistants who work with me. Pansy is our experienced pup, and Daisy is an assistant in training. Both are fantastic listeners who get your feelings and will never, ever judge you. They love people, and they love the work that they do here.  If you’re not into dogs, that’s just fine. Pansy and Daisy work here part-time. Just let me know, and I’ll be happy to meet with you on a day when they’re out of the office.

My Background

I’ve wanted to be a counsellor since high school and have been following that dream ever since. I recently graduated summa cum laude from California Southern University with my doctorate in Psychology and have worked in mental health services for the past 14 years. My experience includes family counselling, school counselling, child and youth counselling, learning differences (dyslexia) counselling, sexual abuse and trauma counselling.

A Note for Children and Teens

You might think that therapy will be just another grown-up telling you what to do. But here’s the thing: I’m not the expert on you; you are. I won’t give you advice. I’m here to help you find the answers that lie within you. Everyone needs a place where their value is seen, and I can be that place if you’d like me to. Together, we can work to calm the inner chaos that makes life so hard. You deserve to feel happy and whole.

A Note for Parents

While I work exclusively with children and teens,  I have tremendous empathy for parents who are struggling. Watching your child suffer and being unable to “fix” it is painful. Please trust that your child is in good hands. I am here to help, and we will connect consistently. I  can also provide you with names of counsellors for the most important adult in your child’s life: you. Your mental wellbeing is the key to theirs.
